Infant airlifted following possible drowning in Benton

BENTON - An investigation is ongoing after the report of a possible drowning involving an infant yesterday evening in Benton.
According to Benton Police Chief Chris Funkhouser, crews responded to a medical response call on North Frisco Street at approximately 6:03 p.m. in reference to a possible drowning of a 10 month old child.
The child was transported by ambulance to the Franklin Hospital where the child was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for further treatment. The child is listed in stable condition at this time.
Further investigation was led by the Benton Police Department with assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, West City Police Department and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services. The investigation is still ongoing.
