CARBONDALE - Those attending this weekend's Saluki basketball game will have even more to celebrate on New Year's as there will be a special balloon drop during the halftime show.

The Salukis (10-4) are on a five-game winning streak as they take on Belmont (9-5) in a nationally broadcast game on ESPNU with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m. CT.

Tickets have been sold at discounted rates to encourage as many to show up as possible for the game on New Year's Day.

The balloon drop will feature over 6,000 total balloons. A locally owned company, SI Balloon Co, has been tasked with installing the balloons over each section of the Banterra Center.

According to Saluki Athletics, one balloon will have a special surprise in it with season tickets to 2023 football games.

Doors open at 3 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans to enter the Banterra Center will receive a free, Grey Dawg bobblehead.

Fans are encouraged to wear white, as the game is billed as SIU's annual White Out contest.
