Veterans Airport Director inducted into Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame

MARION - The Director of Marion's Veterans Airport will be inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame tonight in Champaign.

Doug Kimmel has served as Director for the airport since 1998. His work at the airport includes improving airline and air cargo service in southern Illinois and upgrades to the runway and terminal.

Kimmel is also being honored for his work to honor veterans by renaming the airport and for his work with the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, along with bringing historic aircraft and airshows to the airport while serving as director.

"The Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame honors Doug Kimmel for his contributions to aviation and air transportation in southern Illinois and for his service to our nation’s veterans," read a statement from IAHF.
