NWS: "Drought development likely" throughout Illinois

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - The National Weather Service says that the likelihood of a drought developing over the next couple weeks is increasing throughout Illinois.
In the latest forecast from the Climate Prediction Center, most all of the state is highlighted in the area most likely to see drought conditions develop.
The NWS says that abnormally dry conditions are expected to continue throughout the rest of the Summer months. The only relief could come from potential remnants from tropical systems if they develop.
Next week, temperatures are expected to rise over 100 degrees throughout the region with little to no precipitation expected.
