WILLIAMSON COUNTY - A Marion man has been convicted after being accused of sexually abusing a child.

On September 10, David I. Blue, 44, of Marion, was convicted of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, class X felonies, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class 2 felony. The convictions came after a three-day trial which lasted from September 8-10.

Blue was charged with the three counts in February 2020, when an investigation led by the Marion Police Department showed that Blue had committed the sexual offenses against a child under the age of 13 during the period of March 2018 through October 2019.

Eight witnesses testified during the trial, including the victim, who testified with the aid of the State’s Attorney support dog Zoey.

Blue had no criminal history, and will be sentenced by a judge on October 18, where he faces up to sixty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Blue was taken into custody immediately following the verdict, where he will be held until the sentencing.
