Large bear spotted in Southern Illinois; south of St. Louis metro

WATERLOO, IL - The Monroe County, IL Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a large bear tracking through see several communities in the Metro East.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the bear was sighted in the subdivision of Chantilly Village near Old Baum Church Rd. They are encouraging citizens to stay inside along with any pets.  

If you see this bear, you are encouraged to call 911 immediately. Police ask that you do not feed, approach, or attempt to harm the animal.

They also ask that you not leave pet food outside, and do not put trash cans out until the day of pickup.
