JEFFERSON COUNTY - Family and friends of a local grade school teacher who tragically died this weekend in floodwaters are remembering her for generosity and her big heart.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Shelby Mitchell, 25, was located on Sunday afternoon after the vehicle she was in is believed to have been swept away by floodwaters.

Mitchell was a grade school teacher in Jefferson County. Friends of Shelby held a candlelight vigil over the weekend, and are now raising funds for funeral expenses.

"Shelby Mitchell had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known. She was extremely special and important to me, and so many others. She thrived to make everyone happy even if it inconvenienced herself... I would love for all of us to come together and donate to ease some stress off of her loving, grieving family. Any little bit helps."
